About SPAIR
SPAIR
(short-scar peri-areolar inferior pedicle reduction)
is a short scar breast surgery technique innovated by Dr. Dennis
Hammond to enhance the modern methods of
breast reduction. Breast reduction surgery has come
a long way including advancements like the development
of SPAIR. Just
a short time ago, without using the SPAIR technique, breast
reduction
surgeries
left
women
with
long
scars that
left the breasts flat and unnatural in shape and appearance.
“Short-scar” actually refers to a smaller, shorter scar
from the SPAIR surgery, as compared with the traditional
breast reduction surgery that results in the long, unattractive
scar. Using the SPAIR breast reduction approach, the
SCAR is located around the areola with a line that runs to the
underside of the breast. The SPAIR advantage, in addition
to less scarring, is that the SPAIR surgery method of
breast reduction reduces breast volume by taking tissue from the
upper part of the breast, while the lower part is lifted.
This results in a rounder, more contoured, more natural
look to the successfully reduced breast size.
The final advantage of SPAIR, and the real advancement
of breast reduction surgery techniques, is the internal
breast
shaping procedure. By sculpting the breast tissue on
the inside of the breast, then suturing the tissue on
the inside
using an advanced method, the stitches cannot be seen
on the outside of the breast. This also helps with minimal
scarring that will add to a more beautiful, natural
breast shape.
SPAIR Surgery Evolution
Because Dr. Hammond created such an innovative approach
to breast reduction surgery, the SPAIR technique was found
to
be even more useful in other breast surgery applications.
SPAIR is currently being used by Dr. Dennis Hammond’s
fellows and other SPAIR trained surgeons across the country.
Because SPAIR allows the breast skin and breast tissue
to remain in such outstanding, natural shape, the SPAIR
method
has been used in other surgeries like breast lifts, breast
lifts with augmentation, breast augmentation and breast
reconstruction.
SPAIR as an Option for Women
Breast hypertrophy is a common issue for many women today.
Excessively large breasts can contribute to symptoms like
neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, rashes, poor posture
and can also contribute to low self esteem. When weight loss
alone isn’t a practical solution, the SPAIR breast
reduction surgery has been helping women reverse their symptoms
and restore their confidence.
For other women, factors such as pregnancy, weight gain,
weight loss, nursing and the generally inescapable effects
of life can take a toll on a woman’s body, most noticeably
on the breasts. Skin naturally loses its elasticity over
time and the breasts lose their firm, natural shape and begin
to sag.
A breast lift (or Mastopexy) is a procedure to reshape
the breast and restore a more youthful appearance, also
correcting
the breast position and reducing the drooping effect. Many
women seek a breast lift after pregnancy and nursing, especially
after bearing more than one child. Their stretched skin
and decreased breast volume sometimes leaves them smaller
than
they were prior to children. The SPAIR technique in a breast
lift will leave women with less scarring, a quicker recovery
and a happier body. As with any surgical procedure, Dr.
Dennis Hammond believes in taking time to discuss, plan
and consult
on whether the SPAIR procedure is a feasible option. Dr.
